STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — In the crowded 2021 primary, Sal Albanese — a former councilman himself — thinks he is the right candidate to replace Minority Leader Steven Matteo as the City Council representative from the Mid-Island.
Albanese, a Democrat, immigrated to Brooklyn at the age of eight from Calabria, Italy. He went on to graduate from John Jay High School, received his B.A. in education from CUNY’s York College, earned an M.A. in Health Science from NYU, and went on to get his law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1990.
